The Ashta-Nayika is a collective name for eight types of nayikas or heroines as classified by Bharata in his sanskrit treatise on performing arts - Natya Shastra. The eight nayikas represent eight different states(avastha) in relationship to her hero or nayaka.

Abhisarika, meaning "one who moves," embodies the courageous heroine who bravely defies societal norms to secretly meet her lover. Often depicted at the doorway of her home and journeying through challenging obstacles like storms, snakes, and the dangers of the forest, she is portrayed in art as hurrying towards her destination.
